Behind some of the larger infrastructural developments in Malaysia, lie the UEM Group’s able hands. Here are some of our contributions to the nation:

United Engineers (Malaysia) Berhad [now known as UEM Group Berhad (“UEM”)] carried out financial reconstruction exercise.

UEM submitted proposal to ICP for privatization of the North-South Expressway (NSE)

   
1986 Government of Malaysia announced award of the North-South Expressway (NSE) Concession to UEM
   
1988

UEM signed Concession Agreement on the privatisation of the North-South Toll Expressway and New Klang Valley Expressway.

Government of Malaysia, UEM and Project Lebuhraya Utara-Selatan (PLUS) signed the Highway Novation Agreement

   
1989

UEM acquired equity interest in Cement Industries of Malaysia Berhad (CIMA), Kinta Kellas Investments Public Limited Company (Kinta Kellas) and Ho Hup Construction Company Berhad.

The Federal Highway Route 2 – East Bound Carriageway to Subang Airport Road Interchange was opened ahead of schedule

   
1990 Renong Berhad acquired equity interest in The New Straits Times Press (M) Berhad (NSTP), TIME Engineering Berhad, UEM, Hume Industries (M) Berhad, Sistem Televisyen Malaysia Bhd (TV3), Bank of Commerce Berhad, CIMA and Kinta Kellas.
   
1991

Renong became largest shareholder of UEM.

Incorporation of Kualiti Alam Sdn Bhd (Kualiti Alam) to participate in the privatisation of Malaysia’s scheduled waste management project. Kualiti Alam undertakes Preliminary EIA for Bukit Nanas.

   
1992 UEM signed Tripartite Agreement with Federal Government and the State Government of Johor Darul Takzim for the Malaysia-Singapore Second Crossing Project.
   
1993

UEM acquired equity interest in Lintasan Kedua (M) Berhad.

UEM signed Development Agreement with The State Government of Johor Darul Takzim and Concession Agreement with The Government of Malaysia for the Malaysia-Singapore Second Crossing Project.

Renong entered into a joint-venture agreement with the State Government of Johor Darul Takzim to form a joint venture company to purchase all the lands in South West Johor for the development of a new township from UEM.

Renong disposed it equity interest in NSTP and TV3 to Realmild (M) Sdn Bhd

Renong Scholarship Trust Fund was set up to provide scholarships to deserving Malaysian students.

Renong disposed equity interest in Hume Industries (Malaysia) Berhad.

   
1994

UEM novated Concession Agreement for the Malaysia-Singapore Second Crossing Project to Linkedua (M) Berhad

UEM subsidiary, Projek Penyelenggarran Lebuhraya Bhd (PROPEL), listed on Main Board of Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange.

Renong Berhad acquired equity interest in Park May Berhad.

Malaysia begins its first e-business project with 11 organisations at the Port Klang Community System (PKCS) through Electronic Data Interchange (M) Sdn Bhd, now known as Dagang Net Technologies Sdn Bhd. This is Port Klang’s first step towards an efficient paperless operation.

UEM novated Concession Agreement to privatize North-South Expressway Central Link to Expressway Lingkaran Tengah Sdn Bhd (ELITE).

UEM launched Young Engineers Training Programme.

UEM awarded 15-year exclusive right to build and operate the first totally integrated scheduled waste treatment and disposal facility in Bukit Nenas, Negeri Sembilan.

Projek Usahasama Transit Ringan Automatik Sdn Bhd (PUTRA) sealed a 60-year concession to build, operate and own the Light Rail Transit System II.

Remedi Pharmaceuticals (M) Sdn Bhd sets up Pharma-Net to link several Ministry of Health hospitals for direct online ordering - the first steps towards e-procurement

Signing of Scheduled Wastes Treatment and Disposal (SWATs) Agreement between the Government of Malaysia and Kualiti Alam to provide Kualiti Alam with a 15-year Exclusivity Concession on off-site scheduled waste treatment and disposal for Peninsular Malaysia

UEM acquired equity interest in Projek Lebuhraya Utara-Selatan Berhad

Faber Group Berhad awarded a 15-year concession Hospital Support Services to 72 Government hospitals and embarks on Integrated Facilities Management Services

Gapima Sdn Bhd was appointed as the official Government Freight Forwarders or Multimodal Transport Operator (MTO)

Kinta Kellas acquired Opus International Consultants Ltd, the leading international multidisciplinary consultancy providing Asset Development and Asset Management solutions for infrastructure facilities

Remedi Pharmaceuticals (M) Sdn Bhd established MEU, the Medical and IT Equipment Consultant and Supplier for 10 hospitals

Renong Berhad acquired stake in the Bahrain-based First Islamic Investment Bank.

Official Opening of ELITE Highway

Malaysia-Singapore Second Crossing opened to traffic.

National Sports Complex, Bukit Jalil completed.

Completion of Vista Komanwel Condominium.

Electronic Data Interchange (M) Sdn Bhd (now known as Dagang Net Technologies Sdn Bhd) introduced a world class electronic trade documentation system to KL International Airport – the nation’s newest and biggest international airport in Sepang

Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad officially opened the Integrated Scheduled Waste Management Centre in Bukit Nanas in Negeri Sembilan

Touch ‘n Go became ISO9002 compliant

Kualiti Alam became the first company in Malaysia to achieve simultaneous certifications of ISO9002 & ISO14001

   
2001

Syarikat Danasaham Sdn Bhd acquired equity interests in UEM

UEM delisted from Main Board of Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange on 15 October2001.

CIMA completed the acquisition of 35% equity in NSCI from Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri, Negeri Sembilan (PKNNS). Negeri Sembilan Cement Industries Sdn Bhd (NSCI) is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of CIMA.

Pharmaniaga Berhad acquired land at Kolombong from UEM to build new warehouse in Kota Kinabalu

Touch ‘n Go expend its usage into payment for parking

Kualiti Alam awarded the OHSAS 18001 by SIRIM QAS Sdn Bhd

Renong disposed entire equity interest in First Islamic Investment Bank E.C.Bahrain.

Initial Public Listing of PLUS Expressways Berhad on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (now known as Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad)

Renong disposed equity interest in Crest Petroleum Berhad to Sapura Telecommunications Berhad.

Renong disposed equity interest in Commerce Asset-Holding Berhad.

Renong disposed equity interest in Park May Berhad to Kumpulan Kenderaan Malaysia Berhad.

Renong completed privatization through restructuring and partial settlement debts; cancellation of Renong Berhad’s entire share capital and issuance of new ordinary shares in UEM World Berhad to shareholders of Renong; and acquisitions by UEM World from UEM of shares in CIMA, Intria Berhad, Kualiti Alam Holdings Sdn Bhd, Kinta Kellas and Pharmaniaga Berhad.

TIME Systems Integrators Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of TIME Engineering Berhad, embarked on the supply of multimedia teaching equipment for Program Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran Sains dan Matematik dalam Bahasa Inggeris or PPSMI by the Ministry of Education to 10,037 schools and 28 Teacher Training Institutes

Migration of Pharmaniaga Berhad from the Second Board to the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad

PLUS Expressways Berhad took over operations & management of LINKEDUA and ELITE Expressways

Pharmaniaga Berhad acquired 55% stake in PT Milennium Pharmacon International Tbk (MPI), the leading logistics company in Indonesia

PLUS Expressways Berhad took over operations and management of Seremban – Port Dickson Highway (SPDH)

Completion of UEM Group Berhad restructuring. UEM World Berhad became the listed flagship and UEM Land is designated to spearhead property businesses.

Khazanah Nasional Berhad became holding company of UEM

UEM World awarded contract from Putrajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd for the proposed design, construction and completion of 548 units of Government apartment at Putrajaya, Wilayah Persekutuan.

Kinta Kellas rebranded to Opus International Group plc

Third Supplemental Concession Agreement Signing Ceremony between the Government and PLUS Expressways Berhad

UEM Builders awarded Substructure Works for Berjaya Central Park in Kuala Lumpur

UEM Builders appointed as the Contractor for Institut Jantung Negara Hospital Expansion project in Kuala Lumpur

Government of Malaysia accepted UEM World’s offer to construct, complete, test, commission and maintain the electrified double track project between Rawang and Ipoh.

Signing of Agreement between PT Bashkara Utama Sedaya (Indonesia) and PLUS Expressways Berhad

Ground breaking ceremony of the Penang Second Crossing Bridge project in Batu Kawan, Penang

UEM Land secured agreement for the establishment of JSNAC as the first catalyst development of Nusajaya.

UEM Land undertook degearing exercise involving strategic disposal of 4,500 acres in Nusajaya to Khazanah

   
2007

PLUS Expressways Berhad acquired a 55% controlling interest in PT Lintas Marga Sedaya (LMS), the concessionaire of the Cikampek-Palimanan toll road project.

Expressway Lingkaran Tengah Sdn Bhd (ELITE) and Linkedua (M) Berhad became wholly owned subsidiaries of PLUS Expressways Berhad.

PLUS Expressways Berhad acquired equity interst in Konsortium Lebuhraya Butterworth-Kulim (KLBK) Sdn Bhd, the concessionaire for the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway.

Following the completion of an internal reorganisation of Opus plc and its consolidated subsidiaries, Opus Group Berhad is admitted to the Official List of Bursa Securities, replacing Opus plc

Pharmaniaga Berhad set up marketing office in Vietnam

UEM Land secured Limitless LLC as its development partner for Residential North, Puteri Harbour.

UEM Land launched Horizon Hills and Nusajaya Industrial Park Phase 2. Physical works on Puteri Harbour commences

UEM World undertook corporate exercise such as Non-renounceable restricted offer for sale of UEM World Berhad’s equity interests in its listed subsidiaries, namely UEM Builders Berhad, Opus Group Berhad, Pharmaniaga Berhad and Cement Industries of Malaysia Berhad (CIMA) to the shareholders of UEM World on a rights basis; Dividend-in-specie of shares in UEM Land Holdings Berhad for existing shares in UEM World; Listing of UEM Land Holdings Berhad on the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad; Disposal of UEM World’s remaining businesses and undertakings to UEM; and Capital Repayment.
