Introduction



The Penang Second Bridge is a new bridge under construction in Penang, Malaysia. It will connect Batu Kawan on the mainland Seberang Perai and Batu Maung on Penang Island. It will be the second bridge to link the island to the mainland after Penang Bridge. The total length of the bridge is 24 km. The project will be constructed within three and a half years.

The Penang Second Bridge which is slated to become a regional landmark icon is anticipated spur and stimulates further economic growth not only for Penang state but also for the neighboring states of Kedah, Perak and Perlis. Indeed, as one of the three major infrastructural projects extended for the Northern Region in the 9th Malaysia Plan, the Penang Second Crossing Bridge is set to herald positive and strong growth for the area and also for the country’s future development.

The Government has appointed Jambatan Kedua Sdn Bhd, a special purpose vehicle of the Finance Ministry to be the Concessionaire for the Penang Second Bridge.

UEMB is in the process of finalizing the terms and conditions with Jambatan Kedua Sdn Bhd for Package 2: Superstructure Works and the Approach Spans of the Penang Second Bridge.
