KUALA LUMPUR, 18 August 2011 – The engineering and construction arm of UEM Group Berhad, UEM Builders Berhad is committed to adopt the usage of the Industrialised Building System (IBS) as it unveiled the completion of the Government Apartments in Putrajaya recently.

The Government Apartments, 17RK2 Apartments of Precinct 17 was developed by Putrajaya Holdings (PJH) and constructed by UEM Builders for the Malaysian Government together with the Public Works Department Putrajaya (JKR) as its representative. The apartments, which made of five blocks between 16 to 19-storey, are complemented with a total of 548 apartment units and amenities such as car parks, playgrounds, multi-purpose hall and mushollah are intended for as residence of the Government civil servants.

The project marked a notable significance in the efforts of promoting the usage of IBS in construction. It is a full-fledge product of IBS, as it has achieved more than 80 points in the Construction Industry Development Board’s (CIDB) IBS Score. This represented the total usage of IBS content and construction methodology. End of 2008, the Government called upon all Government agencies to increase the IBS content of their building projects to a minimum of 70 points of the IBS Score.

Mohd Razin Ghazali, Managing Director of UEM Builders Berhad said today, “We are supportive of the call on using IBS as we continue to create more innovations to apply IBS in our projects. IBS is one of the streaks of innovation in the trade of constructions, where we industry players are constantly endeavoured to achieve in its implementation in suitable developments. High density housing and high rise residential such as the Putrajaya Apartments could be a good prospect for IBS as it promotes faster and better quality of construction with increased site cleanliness and safety, while save on materials and labour consumption”.

Mohd Razin further commented, “While the project was no doubt challenging, we have managed to complete the apartment within the stipulated requirements without compromising on quality and safety. We have the resources, expertise and experience to support construction using the IBS method. Another housing project that we are working on using the same concept is a 4,000 unit of houses project in Brunei Darussalam”.
