SULTAN BRUNEI VISITS THE 4000 HOUSES PROJECT SITE IN MENGKUBAU, MENTIRI

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 30 November 2011 – The engineering and construction arm of UEM Group Berhad, UEM Builders Berhad, the main contractor for the construction of 4000 houses under the National Housing Scheme received an esteemed royal visit by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam at the project site in Mengkubau, Mentiri today.

Upon arrival at the project site, His Majesty was received by the Chairman of UEM Group Berhad, YBhg Tan Sri Dr Ahmad Tajuddin Ali, Managing Director of UEM Builders Berhad, Tuan Haji Mohd Razin Ghazali and Project Director of B4000, Halmi Omar. Also present to welcome His Majesty were Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Chairman of Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB), Dato’ Paduka Haji Ali Apong, Assistant CEO and Head of Infrastructure Development of BEDB, Julian Fung and senior executives of BEDB and UEM Builders Berhad.

During the visit, His Majesty was taken on a tour of the mock-up house where His Majesty was briefed on the status and progress of the construction works. His Majesty was also briefed on UEM Builders’ initiative of performing on site fabrication and manufacturing works with the establishment of the precast wall panel factory, rolling factory for BRC wire mesh and cold rolled deformed steel bar, rolling and fabrication works on roof trusses, profiling factory for roof sheet covering and metal door fabrication factory, as well as the setting up of a concrete batching plant unit on site. As of 25th November 2011, the reported progress reached 22.81%, ahead by 2.56% from the original program.

The development of the 4000 houses under the National Housing Scheme in Mengkubau, Mentiri, is administered by the Brunei Economic Development Board. UEM Builders Berhad signed the contract with the BEDB on 14th February 2010 for the construction of 1600 semi-detached and 2400 terrace units within 48 months. Built on a 328-hectare site, each unit house will come with a living and dining hall, kitchen, three bedrooms inclusive of master bedroom, two bathrooms as well as a car porch. The master plan of the neighbourhood area will have land provisions to be furnished with walkway, landscaping and spacious green spaces. Land provision is also allocated for commercial area, schools, mosques and community hall of a complete township upon its full development.
