The North-South Expressway (NSE) operator, PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) will temporarily close some of its over-crowded rest and service areas (R&R) and lay-bys during the Aidiladha balik kampung and balik kota exodus to ensure social distancing SOPs are observed to mitigate the risk of the spread of Covid-19 and at the same time, ensure safety of its customers.

“Upon our discussion with the PDRM, we have decided to temporarily close over-crowded rest area as part of an effort to ensure safety of our customers and reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission. The safety of our customers has always been our number one priority and will not be compromised, thus the decision to carry out this move,” said PLUS’ Head of Operations Excellence, Mohd Yusuf Abd Aziz.

These affected rest areas will be immediately re-opened once PLUS and the relevant authorities have ensured that social distancing procedures can be properly carried out and observed and the environment is safe for our customers.

“We urge our customers to plan their journey and avoid over-crowded rest areas. Alternatively, they can also use public facilities such as public restrooms and suraus at designated toll plazas and re-enter the highway to continue their journey,” he added.

Announcements on temporarily closure of these R&Rs will be continuously communicated through the highway electronic message boards, PLUSTrafik Twitter, the PLUS mobile app and other communications channels.

PLUS anticipates that 1.7 million vehicles will ply the NSE on every peak day during the upcoming Aidiladha break.

KUALA LUMPUR, 24 July – UEM Sunrise, one of Malaysia’s leading property developers, launched “The Happy Chase” in enhancement of the Home Ownership Campaign (HOC 2020) announced by the Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on 5 June 2020 – promising exciting, stress-free rebates, more attractive rewards and easy entry for house buyers.

In response and support of Malaysians during the challenging times as the nation recovers from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Campaign aims at addressing concerns faced by house buyers today and has gone above and beyond the entitlements under the HOC 2020. UEM Sunrise offers booking fees from as low as RM1; waiver on Sales and Purchase Agreement and loan legal fees; and a multitude of other rewards including additional rebates and subsidies. Goodies are also aplenty with purchasers enjoying subsidised maintenance fees for up to 2 years, free kitchen cabinets and home appliances for selected participating projects just to name a few.

Why “The Happy Chase”?

“The Happy Chase” targets three groups of buyers – firstly, youths or first-time home buyers who are “chasing” their dreams to be independent and move into their own home; secondly, more mature audience, the upgraders who are “chasing” their dreams for the security of their family; thirdly, the investors who are looking for opportunities and bargain deals from developers for properties with value and potential. This also sets house buyers on a path to “chase” more rewards.

“As an extension of the UEM Sunrise tagline ‘Find Your Happy’, “The Happy Chase” brings aspiring new home owners, and upgraders on a journey to chase after their dream home and find their happiness through simple and stress-free steps with a little bit of fun added into the mix,” said UEM Sunrise Chief Marketing Officer Kenny Wong.

“Anyone can be a proud owner of a UEM Sunrise development from as low as RM1 in booking fees, enjoy subsidies and at the same time, have the opportunity to win some very attractive prizes, some of which will come in very useful when you settle into a UEM Sunrise home,” he added.

“Each UEM Sunrise development has been designed and built with a deep understanding of what our customers want to surgical precision, and with the philosophy of E.V.E. (Exciting, brings Value, Easy to Own).

“Our developments are future-proofed to withstand generational shifts and evolving needs of customers, ensuring that they are sustainably built to appreciate in value and have a long shelf life,” Wong continued.

“The Happy Chase” will kick off with a Cuti-Cuti Malaysia holiday package to the best of local destinations with 3 days 2 nights stay. After being confined to homes for the past few months, Malaysians are craving for holidays more than ever. UEM Sunrise purchasers will be eligible to enter the monthly lucky draw which will take them to 4 and 5-star hotels in Port Dickson, Melaka, Kuantan, Desaru Coast, Penang, and Pulau Pangkor.

With both physical and mental health being at the forefront of everyone’s concern especially now, for a limited period, purchasers of selected properties will get a free 1-year subscription to Naluri Life, a homegrown branded digital health app that offers personalised and interactive health coaching from professional coaches and psychologists, habit tracker and a journal to capture daily thoughts and food intake.

These initiatives are also in line with UEM Sunrise’s intention to help revitalise the Malaysian economy by looking beyond the property industry and supporting local businesses which are impacted by the MCO.

Potential purchasers looking for extra perks can also take part in “The Happy Chase” Property Gameshow scheduled to kick off in August. Hosted by popular actor, radio and TV presenter Baki Zainal, he will take participants through a series of live game shows on Facebook. UEM Sunrise house buyers can look forward to winning additional rebate vouchers worth up to RM9,000 with every successful booking on top of the already exciting offers given by UEM Sunrise. Handsome prizes are also up for grabs with the general public, including branded electrical appliances and shopping vouchers.

UEM Sunrise will also be collaborating with RinggitPlus.com, Malaysia’s leading financial comparison website to facilitate easy entry. Customers will be able to register and book the project of their choice with only RM1 through the RinggitPlus payment gateway.

PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) emerged as the Gold award winner in the category of managing crisis and reputation at the AMEC Global Summit 2020 Awards Ceremony in the United Kingdom recently. PLUS is the first highway company in the world to receive the award bestowed by International association for the measurement and evaluation of communication (AMEC).

“We are surprised and delighted that the award, which was nominated by Isentia, our regional media monitoring and analysis company was judged as the winning entry over two international brands, Fullintel who won Silver and LexisNexis who received the Bronze. This is proof that the support from the top leadership is key to communications success,” exclaimed Syed Mohammed Idid, Head of Corporate, Community & Public Engagement of PLUS.

“PLUS’ consultation with Isentia uncovered valuable insights into its highway customer behavior and pinpointed the key areas in leadership and its brand promise “Taking care of you every step of the way” enabled the team to review its strategic focus in enhancing the brand reputation. Isentia's suggestion to combine mainstream media monitoring, social listening and online market research as a mixed method of research helped us to ascertain results that reaffirmed our reputation index score, which was a positive jump from 2018,” he elaborated.

Isentia’s Head of Insights, Asia, Prashant Saxena, said “Our insights team stays on the winning streak at the prestigious AMEC awards with high conversion rates. In 2020, we submitted some of our best work for six award categories resulting in four gold and one silver wins. Thanks to our Malaysia team for helping PLUS for their ongoing reputation measurement project. With eighteen AMEC award wins over the last three years, Isentia continues to be the

leading media intelligence specialist in APAC by providing world-class insights to our clients across both government and commercial sectors.”

The AMEC Awards is an annual award program organized by the International Association for the Measurement and Evaluation of Communications that recognizes the exceptional work and accomplishments of research, measurement and analytics for businesses and government communications campaigns.

AMEC is the International Association for Measurement and Evaluation of Communication. It is the world’s largest media intelligence and insights professional organisation, representing organisations and practitioners who provide media evaluation and communication research. AMEC currently has more than 160 members in 86 countries worldwide.

As part of PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) continuous efforts to improve safety at the Gamuda Cove - Putrajaya Interchange on the North-South Expressway Central Link (ELITE), the left lane and emergency lane at KM26.6 to KM26.46 (Northbound) at the area will be temporarily closed to all vehicles from 10:00 pm, 22 July to 25 July 2020.

This is to facilitate and enable safer pavement maintenance works at the area.

However, in the event of congestion at the area, the Northbound traffic will be diverted to Gamuda Cove Toll Plaza. Highway customer has to re-enter the highway upon U-turn at the Gamuda Cove Toll Plaza and make their way up north for smoother journey.

As such, the highway customers are strongly advised to plan their journey and follow all traffic signages and instructions given by PLUS personnel when passing through the stretch.

PLUS is grateful and appreciates the co-operation of all highway customers throughout the maintenance period and their support in ensuring that the traffic flow is as smooth as possible.

From Wednesday, 22nd July 2020, PLUS Malaysia Berhad’s (PLUS) private passenger vehicles customers from the northern state of Kedah as well as Penangites who commute daily interstate will be able to enjoy smoother driving experience toll to toll from Hutan Kampung all the way to Sungai Dua as all nine closed toll plazas will offer a dedicated RFID lane at both its entry and exit points of each toll plazas.

“Our Northern highway customers will very soon be able to enjoy convenient, swift and safe RFID experience.  Aligned to the Government’s directive to move towards Multi Lane Free Flow (MLFF) toll highway, the introduction of RFID on closed toll system is a next step to make this goal a reality. The RFID technology allows for faster throughput thus reducing congestion at the toll lanes, which is the primary objective for PLUS adopting it,” affirms Datuk Azman Ismail, Managing Director of PLUS.

PLUS ushered the New Year with RFID being made available at all its 10 open toll systems (single payment at respective toll plaza) on 1st January 2020 at Jitra, Lunas, Kubang Semang, Penang Bridge, Mambau, Lukut, Kempas, Perling, Lima Kedai and Tanjung Kupang Toll Plazas.

However, plans by PLUS to roll out across its 84 closed toll systems (payment based on distance travelled) on 1st April 2020, had to be deferred due to Covid-19 pandemic which subjected the Country to the Movement Control Order (MCO). Since the implementation of the Recovery MCO, PLUS cautiously planned the progressive reinstatement of RFID implementation.

“Coincidently, its cashless and contactless transaction not only reduces human interaction at the lanes, but also eliminates the risk of Covid-19 transmission. Linked to an e-wallet as the source of funds, the RFID will reduce cases of insufficient card balances that cause hold up at lane. The ability to top up the e-wallet online helps replenish e-wallet balances regularly and negates the human interactions at toll plaza (for insufficient card balances) that increases the risk of Covid-19 transmission,” explains Datuk Azman Ismail.

All Private Passenger vehicles with RFID tags will appreciate the seamless and smooth travel along the northern stretch of the PLUS highway as they pass through the dedicated RFID lanes at the following Toll Plazas from Sungai Dua to Bertam, Sungai Petani Selatan, Sungai Petani Utara, Gurun, Pendang, Alor Setar Selatan, Alor Setar Utara all the way to Hutan Kampung, Kedah.

“We anticipate from the positive uptake of RFID tag from Penangites, our Kedah highway customers will also be eager to register for theirs, especially since Touch ‘n’ Go Sdn Bhd (Touch ‘n Go, current provider of RFID)  is giving away 1,500 free RFID tags in a limited time only promotion, and there’s no better reason than now with additional fitment centres available in the northern region,” declares Datuk Azman.

PLUS currently offers complimentary RFID tag, on a first come first serve basis at selected Fitment Centres in Penang and Kedah only (refer the list below) in conjunction with the #JomRFID campaign, especially during the Hutan Kampung-Sungai Dua the public pilot program kick-off.

“We continue to receive highly encouraging take ups from new RFID users across the northern region over the weekend. It’s heartening to note that the collaboration with Touch ‘n Go will lead to a swifter, safer and congestion free experience to our highway customers,” affirms Datuk Azman.

To redeem these complimentary RFID tags, customers would be required to register as a PLUSMiles member and log in to https://jomrfid.plusmiles.com.my  and receive a voucher code for redemption, while stocks last. After the full redemption of 1,500 complimentary RFID tags, 500 PLUSMiles reward points for 15,000 users are up for grabs when a customer purchases an RFID tag at RM35 each at the selected Fitment Centres.

PLUS and TNG are working closely towards introducing more RFID Mobile Fitment Centres along the PLUS highway especially along the Gurun R&R (Both Bounds) and other key locations soon. By having the RFID tag installed at Fitment Centres, it would enable the RFID tag tested for radio frequency completeness prior to actual toll transactions.

The full list of RFID Fitment Centres available is provided at https://mx.touchngo.com.my/fitment-centres.

Highway customers, while they are encouraged to adopt RFID for their travelling convenience, toll payments via Touch 'n Go cards and SmartTAGs are still accepted at respective toll plazas until further notice.
