  • Campaign, launched in 2010, currently in its fifth year
  • Green Campaign 2014 involves the participation of 15 UEM Sunrise PINTAR adopted schools

NUSAJAYA, 9 October 2014 - UEM Sunrise Berhad ("UEM Sunrise"), the master developer of Nusajaya, one of the five key nodes of Iskandar Malaysia, has successfully concluded its Green Campaign 2014 with a prize-giving ceremony held at Sekolah Kebangsaan Nusantara, Gelang Patah for PINTAR schools.

The ceremony was graced by the Nusajaya State Assemblyman, Yang Berhormat, Dr. Haji Zaini Haji Abu Bakar who presented the prizes to the schools along with UEM Sunrise's Senior General Manager, Nusajaya, Encik Mohd Nadzari Haji Bachek.

Since 2010, the Green Campaign has sought to create environmentally responsible school students who are passionate about saving the environment. The Green Campaign represents part of UEM Sunrise's strategic effort to inculcate green habits in students and develop their awareness on climate change.

In 2014, the campaign entered its fifth consecutive year with active participation from 15 out of 17 UEM Sunrise PINTAR adopted schools. The PINTAR schools comprised 11 of primary schools and four secondary schools. This year, UEM Sunrise in collaboration with Department of Environment ("DOE") Johor, under the Education Unit, designed the Green Campaign in the form of project work for participating schools. The project required each participating school to beautify their school compound, landscape corner or any form of creative corner in a way that resembles a green and sustainable environment. The project took place over three months starting from July to September and was funded by a cash grant amounting to RM1,000 for each participating school.

"As a responsible corporate citizen, UEM Sunrise is committed to building sustainable communities in environmentally friendly living spaces. The Green Campaign aims to educate the younger generation on the importance of environmental protection and cultivate an environmentally responsible culture in the community. We believe that early education and awareness is imperative in changing public perception and modifying behaviour and can result in more acceptance and support towards green initiatives and practises. This, in turn, can help ensuring that the long term objectives and global efforts in addressing environment issues are achieved," said UEM Sunrise's Senior General Manager, Nusajaya, Encik Mohd Nadzari Haji Bachek.

"This year's participation from each school was overwhelming and we had a tough time deciding the winner. We hope to see continued support from students, teachers as well as parents for our future campaigns," he added.

Due to tough competition for the primary school category, DOE has decided to award two champions, Sekolah Kebangsaan Nusantara and Sekolah Kebangsaan Pendas Laut, without a second placing. The third place was awarded to Sekolah Kebangsaan Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar. The two champions bagged a cash prize of RM1,000 each, with a cash prize of RM500 awarded for the third place and eight consolation prizes of RM200 each awarded for eight other schools.

In the secondary school category, the champion, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Taman Nusa Jaya took home a cash prize of RM1,000. Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Gelang Patah won a cash prize of RM700 for second place. In third place, Sekolah Menengah Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar walked away with a M500 cash prize whilst Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tanjung Adang won a consolation prize of RM200.
