NUSAJAYA, 29 September 2014 - UEM Sunrise Berhad (“UEM Sunrise”), in collaboration with Majlis Agama Islam Negeri Johor (“MAINJ”), organised a Zakat Presentation Ceremony for the ‘asnaf’ or underprivileged school students from the developer’s PINTAR adopted schools in Gelang Patah, Johor.

The event which was held at Dewan Bestari, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Gelang Patah today is a continuation of UEM Sunrise’s 2014 corporate responsibility initiative, which successfully contributed a total of RM73,800.00 to 492 asnaf recipients (from 16 UEM Sunrise PINTAR adopted schools) comprising 248 secondary students and 244 primary students endorsed by the Zakat Department of MAINJ. Each student received RM150. 

The contribution aims to help ease the needs of the students as well as to assist them with their relevant school necessities.

“Zakat has a deep humanitarian and social-political value. This religious act prevents the hoarding of wealth and advocates solidarity within humanity by distributing wealth amongst the poor and needy. The paying of zakat also helps purify one's soul and encourages a person to be grateful towards God's bounties,” said Nik Surina Suria Nik Abdullah, Head of Corporate Communication, UEM Sunrise.

“As a responsible corporate citizen, UEM Sunrise is pleased to contribute to the asnaf from our PINTAR schools which is in line with the company’s corporate responsibility – that is to help create a better living for the community within our developments as well as areas that we operate in.” she added.

The ceremony was graced by the Nusajaya State Assemblyman, Yang Berhormat, Dr Haji Zaini Haji Abu Bakar who presented the contributions to the schools along with UEM Sunrise’s Head of Corporate Communication, Nik Surina Suria Nik Abdullah.

Within the Central region, among the organisations that received Zakat contributions from UEM Sunrise include ‘Pertubuhan Kanak-Kanak Insan Istimewa Cemerlang Selangor’ (RM21,770.85), ‘Sekolah Kebangsaan Bangi, Selangor’ (RM21,770.85), ‘Rumah Bakti Al-Kausar Bangi’ (RM21,770.85), ‘Sekolah Kebangsaan Cyberjaya’ (RM 21,770.85) and  ‘Rumah Nur Kasih Bistari Segambut’ (RM53,000.00) to name a few.

He went on to say that while the Company will continue to tap into the vast opportunities available in Malaysia, it will also be expanding its overseas presence in neighbouring countries via its four core businesses.

“Our Expressways business in India and Indonesia, led by 100% subsidiary PLUS Expressways International Berhad, is doing well. The construction of our 116-kilometre Cikampek-Palimaman Expressway in Indonesia is on track and upon completion in 2015, we will hold a 35-year concession to manage and operate the expressway.

"India is a country with encouraging economic growth and this is expected to continue. We had earlier this year acquired an 80% stake in Uniquest Infra Ventures Private Limited, an entity that invests in infrastructure projects in the country. In India, we currently operate and manage the Padalur-Trichy Highway along NH45, the Khalghat-MP/Maharashtra Border section of NH-3 from Km 84.70 to Km 167.50 in the state of Madhya Pradesh. We are also understaking construction of the 127-km Jetpur-Somnath Highway (NH8d) in India.

"In Australia, UEM Sunrise development in Melbourne will have an estimated Gross Development Value (GDV) of RM2.63 billion while in Canada, our Quintet project has a launched GDV of RM961 million; and there's a strong demand for asset and facility management services in Middle East.

"We undertake projects that mid-size companies are not able to embark on by virtue of their size and as such, we will continue to play our role in nation building. Just like in Malaysia, we will partner with local companies and entrepreneurs by carrying out development programmes, providing them technical guidance, technology and knowledge transfer as well as advice on quality control and service excellence," said Dato' Izzaddin.

Dato' Izzaddin today met with the media where he formally introduced the Group's three recent key appointments. The first is Taufik Albar, the Company's Group Chief Financial Officer who joined back in November 2013. Aged 42, Taufik has over 16 years of financial experience. He hails from Shell, Axiata Group Berhad and before making the move to UEM Group, Taufik was the CFO of Smart Axiata, Cambodia.

Second is Anwar Syahrin Abdul Ajib who was named Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of UEM Sunrise Berhad (UEM Sunrise) effective 1 September 2014. Prior to UEM Sunrise, 41-year old Anwar was the Group Chief Financial Officer and Group Head, Port & Logistics Division at MMC Corporation Berhad (MMC).

Third is Azmir Merican who assumed the position of Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Faber Group Berhad (Faber) on 1 August 2014. Azmir first joined UEM Group in October 2012 as its Group Chief Operating Officer, Business Units. Prior to UEM Group, 43-year old Azmir was the Group Chief Executive/Managing Director at AWC Berhad, a company listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad and a provider of engineering services and solutions and integrated facilities management in Malaysia, Singapore and the Middle East.

NUSAJAYA, 10 September 2014 - UEM Sunrise Berhad (‘UEM Sunrise’) one of the five key nodes of Iskandar Malaysia, successfully organised the “Amazing Patriotic Race” for its PINTAR students in conjunction with the Country’s 57th Independence Day and Malaysia Day celebrations at Bangunan Sultan Ismail, Kota Iskandar, today.

The fourth year UEM Sunrise PINTAR Schools National Day Programme was designed in the form of treasure hunt called “Amazing Patriotic Race” which was divided into two categories – primary and secondary schools students. The participation was extended from 120 students to 160 students (eight primary schools and four secondary schools), making it the highest students’ involvement for UEM Sunrise PINTAR Schools National Day Programme.

Competing in a group of four students in a team and its first fully English medium contest, the inaugural treasure hunt will tap on the students’ English literacy in terms of grammar usage and vocabulary, at the same time to inculcate the spirit of patriotism through entirely English questions related to unity and Malaysia’s Independence Day. The Amazing Patriotic Race requires the participants to complete a total of 10 educational yet fun pit stops activities which comprised of listening, spelling, crossword puzzle, mind and memory games, including testing their ability to use the chopsticks to move objects.

For the primary school category, the champion will walk away with RM400 worth of cash prize, champion’s medal and certificate of participation each. The first and second runner up received RM300 and RM200 cash prizes each team, medals and certificates of participation respectively. Meanwhile, ten consolations winners for this category will receive RM100 cash prizes each team and certificate of participation each.

For the secondary school category, the champion will take home cash prize worth RM500, champion’s medal and certificate of participation. Whilst the first and second runner up bagged home cash prizes of RM400 and RM300 respectively, medals as well as certificates of participation. Meanwhile, cash prizes of RM100 per team will be given to the five consolation winners including medal and certificate of participation each.

“The National Day Programme, is part of UEM Sunrise’s strategic initiatives to support the Government’s efforts to instil the spirit of patriotism, promoting multi-racial integration and unity amongst the younger generation particularly the school students. In addition, we also want to create a greater sense of pride of the historical event by highlighting its significance and importance to inspire our PINTAR students to become historically profound future leaders throughout the variety of activities designed in this programme”, said Encik Mohd Nadzari Haji Bachek, Senior General Manager, Nusajaya UEM Sunrise Berhad.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of YB Dr Haji Zaini Haji Abu Bakar, Assemblyman of Nusajaya, who presented the prizes to all winners. The ceremony was also attended by Tuan Haji Ahmad Taufik Hamzah, Human Development Unit Officer, Johor Bahru District Education Department and respective teachers of UEM Sunrise’s PINTAR schools.

PETALING JAYA, 03 September 2014 - Highway users paying toll electronically via PLUSMiles card, Touch 'n Go cards or SmartTAG at the Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau Toll Plazas are able to enjoy up to 30 percent toll rebates between 1 September until the end of the year.

According to PLUS Chief Operating Officer, Mohammad Fuad Khusairi, “The toll rebate, which is divided into 30 percent for Off Peak Hour transactions and 10 percent for Peak Hour transactions, is offered to Class 1 users paying tollelectronically via PLUSMiles cards, Touch ‘n Go cards or SmartTAGs at both toll plazas."

A 30 percent toll rebate will be given to users paying toll electronically at Off Peak Hours between 10:00 am and 3:59 pm as well as between 10:00 pm and 5:59 am daily at both toll plazas. Meanwhile, a 10 percent toll rebate will be offered to users paying toll electronically at Peak Hours between 6:00 am and 9:59 am as well as between 4:00 pm and 9:59 pm every day.

“In addition, highway users will be able to purchase SmartTAG at a promotional price of RM99 from its normal price RM120 per unit (while stock lasts) when their reload RM30 of their PLUSMiles or Touch ‘n Go cards at both toll plazas,” Fuad added.

On top of that, highway users will be able to purchase preloaded RM5 PLUSMiles Touch ‘n Go cards (with RM5 pre-loaded value) at a promotional rate of RM5 at the dedicated reload lanes and Customer Service Centres at both toll plazas until 30 November 2014.

Apart from that, PLUS also has activated its 24-hours reload lanes at Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau Toll Plazas for users to reload their cards conveniently.

Generally, the Touch ‘n Go and SmartTAG lanes are able to accommodate 550 and 1,000 transactions respectively within one hour. Cash lanes, on the other hand, can only accommodate 220 transactions.

The move is also part of an effort to encourage the public to switch to electronic toll payment system which is easier and faster.
