We are always ready to be a good neighbour and lend a helping hand to the community. For us, it is about improving lives, meeting their needs, opening doors and building meaningful long-term relationship with them, one community at a time.
UEM ALERT Volunteers
Good intentions should be translated into tangible actions. We encourage and provide platform for our employees to spread kindness and compassion. Our volunteering programme was established in 2006 and it allows our employees to contribute their time, skills and efforts to the communities.
Most of all, we have and will continue to show courage, tenacity and empathy to do what it takes to deliver relief supplies, undertake clean-up efforts and rehabilitation assistance in the wake of national emergencies.
Democratising Health Care
In 2014, we embarked on a meaningful journey, supporting patients of these hospitals - Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz UKM (HCTM), University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM) and in 2025, Hospital Rehabilitasi Cheras (HRC).
Over the years, this initiative has touched the lives of more than 2,000 underprivileged patients who received life-saving surgeries, necessary medications and vital medical equipment. Through this ongoing effort, we’re proud to play a part in their healing and recovery.
Bringing Joy to The Underprivileged
There is a story behind each and every resident of old folks' care centers, orphanages and shelter homes. We believe an act of generosity can reach a wound that only compassion can heal.
It is on this premise that we aspire to create a home away from home for them. Several renovation works have been undertaken at selected underprivileged community centers to improve their living conditions. Our volunteers also spend time interacting with them, especially during the festive seasons, in the hope of leaving behind good memories they will cherish forever.
Reducing Hunger and Hygiene Poverty
Every day, in the corners of Malaysia where the sun rises quietly, families face the harsh realities of hunger and poor hygiene. For many, these struggles are not just statistics but daily battles. Thus, we remain dedicated to providing essential provisions and hygiene products, aiming to lighten these burdens and enhance the well-being of underprivileged communities. By the end of 2025, our efforts had reached over 20,000 recipients, all of which benefited from this programme.
Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP)
Yayasan UEM Entrepreneurship Development Programme is more than just an initiative, it is a lifeline for micro-entrepreneurs in rural areas. Launched with a vision to empower and sustain small business, our programme focuses on nurturing underprivileged micro-entrepreneurs (including OKUs) in communities in Kedah, Perlis and Kelantan.
Each year, we uplift local businesses with capital assistance and essential training in basic accounting, management and marketing. This programme supports micro-entrepreneurs with the resources and confidence to succeed. By investing in these communities, we help build a stronger, more resilient local economy.
Sustainable-Focused Entrepreneurship Development Programme
At Yayasan UEM, we always strive to improve the lives of Malaysia’s underprivileged communities. With Universiti Sains Malaysia’s Centre for Marine and Coastal Studies (CEMACS) as our partner, we have implemented a sustainable-focused entrepreneurship initiative that breathes new life into Langkawi’s coastal communities.
Our first project is new oyster farms. This venture not only revive sustainable aquaculture in mangrove-rich waters, but participants are also equipped with hands-on training in farm operations, hatchery management and eco-tourism resulting in a wave of social empowerment, fresh seafood offerings for visitors and viable livelihoods by the sea.
Green Initiatives
Preserving Nature & Environmental Awareness
Our green initiatives like the lively RecycleMania, Trash4Cash, and the adventurous Earth Day Scavenger Hunt, are designed to spark enthusiasm and raise awareness about our environment. These activities not only inspire our community to make eco-friendly choices but also invite them to discover and appreciate the green spaces all around. It is through these events that we turn environmental care into a shared experience, making it an integral part of our daily lives as well as fostering a deeper connection to the world around us.
Garden to Care
At Yayasan UEM, we believe in nurturing not just the land but the spirit of community, and our Garden to Care initiative is a vibrant example of this commitment.
For this project, we support various urban community gardens within Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) such as Kebun Komuniti KRT PPR Beringin in Jinjang Utara, Kuala Lumpur.
With our partners, not only do we create a thriving vegetable garden that brings people together, but the produce is shared among local residents as well as donated to old folks care centre and orphanages further fostering a sense of unity and collaboration.
SIREH Park
We are of the opinion that progress should always go hand in hand with protecting our environment and biodiversity. With the creation of SIREH Park by UEM Sunrise, the 343-acre green oasis located in Iskandar Puteri is a sustainable, world-class natural heritage park that conserves, documents and promotes the naturally existing plant biodiversity in the area.
